A Real, Couragous Conservative!
I have finally come fully on board the McCain ticket! There wasn’t another VP candidate he could have chosen that would have excited me more than Sarah Palin. Nobody!!! Mitt Rommney is an admirable and very capable business executive … and came across as a slick politician. Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty has a fairly conservative record and seems a likable guy … not a barn-burner candidate. Rudy Giuliani is a great American, great on national security … and way to liberal on social issues. But Palin … WOW!!! Again … WOW!!!!!!!
She is a proven conservative; mother of five (the last a toddler born with Downs syndrome), a hunter, a fisherman (fisherwoman?) with her husband on their commercial fishing boat, a mother of a solder that will be deploying to Iraq in a few weeks, and someone who has actually fought big government waste … against members of her own party! She actually knows what she’s talking about when she talks about energy and drilling (her husband works on the Alaska pipeline on off season when he can’t fish). She played hockey and basketball, she’s shot moose, she was superwoman … oh wait; that was someone else!
Is she another Margaret Thatcher in waiting? I am going to go out on a limb here … she’s smart like Maggie … she has conservative values like Maggie … she’s not afraid of taking on the powerful status quo like Maggie … she’s shown courage against the incumbent powers-that-be like Maggie! This may be her platform for the future. Time will tell (I may just be hoping for a female Reagan?).
The Obama campaign has already jumepd on her lack of experience (she’s been Governor of Alaska for about 18 months and Mayor of a small town outside of Anchorage for about 8 years). This is a case of the pot calling the kettle black (no pun intended). Obama is at the top of the ticket, and has no more experience, and less executive experience, than Palin. If he were to be elected, we would be immediately placing control of the most powerful country the world has ever known into the hands of an inexperienced rookie. If McCain is elected, we would have a seasoned politician with a great deal of life experience at the top of the ticket, along with a person that has some executive experience in the second spot … on-the-job training for the top spot! BIG DIFFERENCE!!
McCain pulled this off brilliantly! … and he regained my support after turning me off following his loss to Bush in 2000 and subsequent “maverick” stunts such as McCain-Feingold, the Gang of 14, and “Comprehensive Immigration Reform.”: [His Saddleback debate performance helped as well!]
Phenomenal move and great choice, John!
Update: Sal on Dennis Miller’s radio program called her McCain’s “throphy VP.” Very funny!!!
